Mühle R89 DE safety razor - Closed Comb - Black

Mühle

MÜH-14996

How do you use a Safety Razor?
If you haven't tried a safety razor - or a DE scraper like this one, then you probably just have to get used to using it. And your skin probably needs to too.

But follow this procedure - and you're pretty much on your way:

  • Moisten skin and beard/hair with warm water
  • Use shaving foam or a shaving brush and lather it up well - possibly. with a brush
  • Check your scraper and make sure the scraper head and handle are not loose. However, only tighten the screw if it is loose. Then you are sure that the blade is at the right angle
  • Start your shave and hold the scraper at a 30 degree angle to the skin
  • Let the scraper slide over the skin with light pressure
  • Shave only in the direction of the hairs - not against the hairs
  • Tighten the skin in places where it can be difficult to get a flat surface - e.g. on the neck

Can a Safety Razor also be used by women?
The short answer is: YES!

The Safety Razor also works well for shaving on the body.

Even though Mühle's leaflet says that it should only be used on the face. But Mühle's products are sold all over the world, so they have probably chosen to be extra careful with their recommendations for that reason. As long as you are careful with the shave, just as you would be if it were on the face, then you can easily use it on the body too.

Mühle

Materials & Craftsmanship

Olive wood has been valued since antiquity for its strength and warm character. Blanks are carefully dried, turned, sanded and sealed with oil, creating a silky sheen and water-repellent surface. Chrome metal parts underline the line’s clean design language. All made in Germany.

How to get the best shave with a safety razor

  1. Thoroughly moisten the skin (ideally after a shower).
  2. Whip up shaving soap/cream with the brush and massage in.

Shaving set with SE safety razor - The Twig - Prism

Leaf Shave

LSH-10145

Technical design and performance
Leaf Shave The Twig is constructed to make the transition from multi-blade system razors to safety razors as smooth as possible.

The handle is back-weighted, providing natural balance in the hand and ensuring that the weight of the razor itself delivers the necessary pressure against the skin. Therefore, you should not press down, but simply let the razor glide over the skin.

The difference between The Twig and its sister model Thorn lies in the "blade gap," i.e., the distance between the blade and the safety bar. The Twig has a smaller gap, resulting in a milder shave that effectively removes hair without being aggressive toward the skin.

How to use The Twig
To achieve the best result, it is recommended to prepare the skin thoroughly.

  • Preparation: Wash the area with warm water to soften the hairs and open the pores.
  • Soap: Apply a high-quality shaving cream or shaving soap to ensure good glide.
  • Shaving: Hold The Twig against the skin (the angle is preset). Let the weight of the razor do the work without applying extra pressure.
  • Rinsing: Rinse the razor continuously under warm water to remove hair and soap residue.

Changing razor blades
The Twig uses standard halved DE blades (Single-Edge). The razor is delivered including 60 pcs Leaf Shave Single-Edge blades.

  1. Turn the bottom of the handle clockwise to open the head.
  2. Lift off the top plate. The built-in magnet will help hold or catch the old blade.
  3. Place a new blade on the head. The magnet ensures it sits correctly.
  4. Close the head and turn the bottom counter-clockwise to lock the razor.

Cleaning and maintenance
Correct maintenance extends the product's lifespan and ensures hygiene.

  • Daily cleaning: Rinse the razor thoroughly after use. Possibly open the head slightly to rinse inside. Ensure it can dry completely between uses.
  • Deep cleaning: If limescale deposits or stuck dirt occur, the razor can be soaked in a solution of 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water for a maximum of 10 minutes. Afterwards, scrub gently with a soft toothbrush and mild dish soap.

Shaving set with Leaf razor - Black

Leaf Shave

LSH-10022

Customized shaving for the entire body
The Leaf Razor is designed to bridge the gap between the comfort of a modern system razor and the efficiency of a safety razor.

Up to three Single-Edge blades can be inserted into the razor.

  • 3 blades: Provides the closest shave, ideal for legs or head shaving.

  • 2 blades (remove the bottom one): Makes the razor milder. This is specifically recommended for sensitive skin and intimate shaving to reduce the risk of irritation.

  • 1 blade: The mildest setting, suitable if the skin needs rest.

How to use your Leaf Razor
Thanks to the pivoting head, the technique is very similar to that used with a regular plastic razor, but without the need for pressure.

  • Preparation: Wash the skin with warm water and potentially a mild exfoliation to lift the hairs.

  • Lather: Apply a good shaving soap (e.g., from Isangs) to ensure optimal glide.

  • Shaving: Guide the razor over the skin in long strokes. Most importantly: do not apply pressure. Let the weight of the razor and the sharp blades do the work.

  • Rinse: Rinse the head continuously under warm water to remove hair and soap.

Changing blades
The Leaf Razor uses a magnetic system that makes changing blades easy.

  1. Turn the screw on the head counter-clockwise to open.

  2. Place the blades in the desired positions (magnets hold them in place).

  3. Close the head and tighten the screw clockwise.

Tip: Watch your fingers – the blades are very sharp.

Maintenance and cleaning
To preserve the matte black finish and the mechanism's function, the razor should be rinsed thoroughly after each use.

  • Open the head and rinse internally to remove soap residue.

  • Store the razor in a dry place – here the included stand is ideal, as it allows water to drain off.

  • For limescale deposits: Soak the razor in a solution of 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water for approx. 10 minutes. Afterwards, scrub lightly with a soft toothbrush. Do not let it soak for longer than recommended.
