Maintenance of your woolen duvet from Cocoon Company

A woolen duvet should not be washed. The lanolin in the wool is because the lanolin in the wool is important for the duvet's temperature-regulating function - and the lanolin is quietly washed out by the duvet when it is washed.

On the other hand, it is a super good idea to air the duvet regularly. It is good for the humidity in the duvet and for the lightness. If you can air it out in freezing weather, it is the absolute best thing you can do.

If an accident has occurred, however, we recommend that you spot wash the duvet.

Why kapok?
The kapok fibre is a thin-walled, hollow tube filled with up to 80% air. That makes it extremely light – only about an eighth of the weight of cotton – and breathable at the same time. The fibre has a natural waxy coating that makes it water-repellent, so it does not soak up moisture. Instead, moisture and heat can escape from the body, which is why a kapok mattress is known for a dry, even sleeping climate where you are neither clammy, cold nor too warm.

The fibre is filled and sewn by hand by local craftspeople in India, and the cover is GOTS-certified organic cotton.

The mattress has been tested and approved to the European standard for children's mattresses, EN 16890:2017+A1:2021.

Caring for the mattress
Take the mattress out and stand it on its side now and then so it can air out. Kapok is a loose natural fibre, so at the same time massage the fibre from the edges towards the middle to help the mattress keep its shape.

Why kapok?

Size
The mattress measures 70x110 cm, and is made specifically for the version of the Sebra bed that has plexiglass up by the bars. If your Sebra bed does not have plexiglass up by the bars, it is probably the newer version, which is simply called the Sebra bed.

The mattress is stuffed and sewn by hand, so the dimensions may vary slightly. When the bed needs to be extended, the mattress can be extended with Cocoon's kapok extension mattress for the Sebra Kili bed in 70x40 cm.

How to care for the mattress
Stand the mattress on its side occasionally so it gets aired. Kapok is a loose natural fibre just like in a futon, so simultaneously massage or press the fibre from the edges towards the centre, where the mattress is put under the most strain. This way, it keeps its shape and does not form a depression.

Kapok duvet and pillow for baby

Kapok is a unique material that is both temperature regulating and insulating.

Kapok, also called silk cotton, is light and breathable and transports moisture away from the body. The temperature-regulating effect makes it suitable as both a summer and winter duvet and especially suitable for small children who may have difficulty regulating their body temperature. Use the set both for the bed and for the pram.

Kapok is recommended for allergy sufferers, as natural kapok contains an antibacterial substance that house dust mites cannot live in.

Both the duvet and pillow are filled with untreated organic kapok, with a spring of 100% organically certified cotton.

The duvet measures 70x100 cm.

The pillow is a flat model and measures 40x45 cm.

Please note that kapok duvets feel different from ordinary down duvets. It is a little heavier and perhaps a little more like a cotton blanket.

Maintenance of your kapok duvet and pillow

And they are definitely worth taking good care of.

As a starting point, you should only wash your kapok duvet or pillow if it is strictly necessary.

If the stains are minor, we recommend spot wash.

If it is necessary to wash your kapok duvet or pillow, do it like this:

• Wash preferably at 40 degrees to protect the fibre. However, 60 degrees is possible if necessary.
• Choose a short washing program, as the kapok cannot stand being wet for too long
• Choose centrifugation at 1200 revolutions to get as much water as possible out of the kapok
• Use a gentle detergent without enzymes or bleach. For example, Cocoon's soap berry or a delicate detergent with or without probiotics
• Do not use fabric softener
• Dry the kapok duvet or pillow immediately after washing

• The kapok duvet or pillow is dried alone in the tumble dryer
• Give yourself plenty of time. We recommend using dryer balls in wool to reduce drying time. They also ensure that the fibers are gently separated
• Do not use tennis balls as they break the fiber
• Choose a 30 minute program with medium heat. Look at the kapok pillow and repeat until it is slightly damp.
• Let the kapok duvet or pillow dry in a warm place until the rest of the moisture is gone.
• Be careful not to dry too long in the dryer, as this can reduce the life of the fiber.
