Menstrual cup

The alternative to pads and tampons
The small cup acts as a replacement for menstrual pads and tampons, and you get more flexibility and less running costs. The menstrual cup collects the blood, you empty it, and then the cup can be used again and again. A brilliant solution for women of all ages.

At Økofamily we offer menstrual cups from Lunette and OrganiCup, which we believe are the best on the market. The cup from Lunette is also the only cup on the market that is tested 100% free of chemicals. Read the chemical test from TÆNK.

The menstrual cup is practical, environmentally friendly and cheap

There are many advantages to switching to the menstrual cup from pads or tampons. The advantages include:

  • It is practical the cup is easy to carry and can sit for up to 12 hours
  • It is environmentally friendly the cup is easy to clean and lasts for many years
  • It is cheap the reusability of the cup means you don't have to buy tampons and pads again and again

In fact, a menstrual cup can last up to 10 years before it must be changed. With a menstrual cup, your cycle will also be completely odorless, just as you won't have to bother with missing waste bins in toilets.

We recommend using the Lunette and OrganiCup menstrual cups like this:

  1. Boil the cup (before or after a cycle) and wash your hands. Also check that the air holes in the top of the cup are open.
  2. Start from a standing or sitting position. Start by folding the cup (eg like a C by first pressing it flat and then bringing the two ends together).
  3. Insert the folded cup edge first. Check whether the cup fits correctly by feeling with a clean finger whether the bottom of the cup is round.
  4. Empty the cup 2 to 4 times a day. The cup should not be left on for more than 12 hours at a time (but can easily be used at night too).
  5. Remove the cup by grasping the bottom with clean fingers. Squeeze lightly and then pull the cup out. Empty the contents into the toilet and then clean the cup before re-installing it.
  6. Always clean the cup before and after each cycle. In order to avoid odors and discoloration, we recommend that you do so by first cleaning in cold water, then warm water and then using Lunette Feelbetter Cup Cleanser.

You will typically find it more and more comfortable to use the menstrual cup, the more times you use it. Notice how it feels and get to know your own body in relation to the number of emptyings and the like.
