Kapok Mattress for junior beds - 70x140 cm
Cocoon CompanyMAT-070140
Why kapok?
The kapok fibre is a thin-walled, hollow tube filled with up to 80% air. That makes it extremely light only about an eighth of the weight of cotton and breathable at the same time. The fibre has a natural waxy coating that makes it water-repellent, so it does not soak up moisture. Instead, moisture and heat can escape from the body, which is why a kapok mattress is known for a dry, even sleeping climate where you are neither clammy, cold nor too warm.
Handmade in India
The fibre is filled and sewn by hand by local craftspeople in India, and the cover is GOTS-certified organic cotton.
Tested to EU safety requirements
The mattress has been tested and approved to the European standard for children's mattresses, EN 16890:2017+A1:2021.
Size
The mattress measures 70x140 cm. It is filled and sewn by hand, so the dimensions may vary slightly.
Caring for the mattress
Stand the mattress on its side now and then so it can air out. Like a futon, kapok is a loose natural fibre, so at the same time massage the fibre from the edges towards the middle, where the mattress takes the most weight. That way it keeps its shape and does not form a hollow.

Reversible Coir and Natural Latex Junior Mattress - 70x140 cm
Cocoon CompanyCLM-070140
A firm side and a soft side
Side 1 has a core of organic coir and is the firm side. It gives a firm, supportive surface with plenty of airflow, as recommended for the early months. Side 2 has a core of perforated natural latex and is softer and more yielding, giving a good balance of support and comfort once your child is bigger. Simply turn the mattress over when your child is ready for the softer side.
Coir that springs and breathes
The coir fibres come from coconut production. They are washed, softened and then twisted into ropes that shape the fibres into small springs. Because the fibres are large and coarse, the layer is full of air channels running through it, so air can circulate and heat and moisture can escape from the body.
Natural latex from the rubber tree
Natural latex is the sap of the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis). The sap is tapped from the tree and processed into an elastic foam that gives under the pressure of the body and moulds to it. In the mattress core, this provides soft yet supportive comfort, and the open structure of the foam lets air pass through.
GOLS certified
The latex in the core is certified to GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard). The certification requires at least 95% of the latex to be organic, and it covers the whole journey from plantation to finished latex core.
Wool with natural lanolin
The cover is quilted with a layer of untreated organic wool from New Zealand. The air-filled wool fibres insulate beneath your child, and the lanolin in the wool helps carry excess heat and moisture away. The mattress is handmade from start to finish in Sri Lanka.
Size
The mattress measures 70x140 cm.
Care
Air the mattress regularly, and consider using a washable waterproof protector so the mattress stays in good condition for longer.
