Kapok mattress from Cocoon Company
This train carriage mattress is made of organic Kapok and GOTS certified organic cotton.
It is the most natural and organic mattress for your baby.
A kapok mattress is firm as recommended by experts for babies and children.
Kapok is a natural fiber that grows on kapok trees in the tropics rainforests.
Kapok insulates, regulates temperature and transports moisture away from the body. These are quite practical properties in a sleeping environment - especially for a small baby, who may have difficulty regulating his body temperature.
Kapok can also be used by allergy sufferers, as the fiber contains an antibacterial substance that house dust mites cannot live in.
Kapok mattresses do not contain mould, flame retardants or fluorine substances, which unfortunately most other conventional foam mattresses do.
This kapok mattress fits an Emmaljunga NXT Big Star pram and measures 37 x 96 cm, it narrows at one end so that it is widest at 37 cm.
The kapok mattress is hand-filled with untreated organic kapok, covered with a spring of 100% organically certified cotton.
Since it is hand-filled, there may be some variation in the measurements.
Maintenance of your kapok mattress
The is a good idea to give your kapok mattress a bit of air from time to time.
You do this by placing it on its side once in a while.
If you have a bed with a slab base without air flow, you must pay particular attention to airing your mattress.
Because the slab base will not be able to transport moisture and heat away from the mattress and in the worst case this can result in fungal spores at the bottom of your mattress. The mattress is hand-stuffed with loose natural fibres, and therefore the mattress must be maintained once in a while as needed, where you put the mattress on its edge and massage/press the fiber from the edge towards the middle, where the mattress is most stressed during use. Otherwise, the mattress can form a hole where the kapok fiber is pressed the most.
