Make your own liquid soap from soap nuts

Make your own liquid soap from soap nuts

Make liquid soap from soap nuts – like

Would you like to avoid too much plastic packaging in your everyday life – and just want to live a little more naturally?
Then here you get a fantastically easy DIY on how to make your own liquid soap that you can use for laundry, cleaning, washing up and as hand soap.

All you need is washer nuts – also called soapberries, which you can find here.

Washnuts are hugely popular as a detergent for washing clothes. The concept is that you simply throw 4-5 laundry nuts into your washing machine. The saponin (soap) in the soapnuts is released when the soapnuts are dissolved in water above 30 degrees, so that way you can wash your clothes completely naturally – and without any additives. You can use the wash nuts 4-5 times or until they are pale.

But you can certainly also use the laundry nuts for other things. Especially if you transform them into liquid soap:-)

Recipe for liquid soap made from soap nuts

  • Lay approx. 10 whole walnuts in 1 liter of boiling water. You can also choose more washing nuts or less water if you want a stronger soap
  • Boil the carob nuts for 15-20 min. at low heat – or longer if you want a stronger soap
  • Press the saponin out of the walnuts during cooking with a fork. It helps the process along a bit
  • Cool the mixture down
  • Add any fragrance in the form of essential oil, if you want it and otherwise can tolerate it. Remember that essential oils can be just as allergenic as chemical perfumes. Read any more here
  • Drain the wasps through a clean cloth. Save the washers. They can be used again. Actually a 4-5 times or until they are pale
  • Pour the liquid soap onto the glass and voila – then it is ready

The liquid soap can be used for laundry, dishwashing, cleaning, hand washing, etc.

Be aware that the liquid soap does not foam nearly as much as classic concentrated dishwashing detergent or detergent. But it works exactly as well.
