Crocheted “cotton balls”
I put some home-crocheted “cotton balls” on my Facebook and Instagram profile the other day. And that gave rise to a whole lot of questions. So I promised to post a recipe here.
I use fairly mild mascara (and make-up in general), so I basically just remove it with a cotton pad with water on it. Or a cellulose sponge, which I've actually been quite happy with, but it just gets ugly over time and falls apart a bit when used. So I needed a more sustainable alternative. And you have to say that this is it. And they're really super easy to make if you're good with a crochet hook – or know someone who is.
So here goes. And just have to point out that I'm a happy amateur when it comes to knitting and crocheting, but I love it. It is one of the things that can de-stress me the most.
Recipe for crocheted roundels
The recipe is definitely not something I just pulled out of my sleeve myself. They are basically just a very simple development of this wonderful recipe.
Because I needed the roundel to be a little bigger. And by the way, that I could just crochet in a spiral:-)
Use leftover cotton yarn and a crochet hook in size 3-3.5 (depending on running length)
Approx. 1: Start by making 6 chain stitches and join them with a chain stitch to form a ring.
Approx. 2: In the ring you now make 8 puff stitches (8)
If you want to know how to make puff stitches, here is a super good tutorial.
Approx. 3: Make 2 puff stitches in each stitch, so you have a total of 16 puff stitches in the round (16)
Approx. 4: 1 puff stitch, 2 puff stitches in the next stitch (24)
Approx. 5: Finish the round with a round of double crochets (24)
And that's it. It takes no time and is a nice stress-relieving project.
Really good fun.
