Kapok is an organic fiber that grows naturally in the tropical forests of India. A material that is extracted from the seed capsules of the Kapok plants, and which has no other uses than as filling in duvets, pillows and mattresses. Here, however, it fits perfectly.
Since kapok already grows naturally in forest areas, the surrounding environment is not affected by the harvest. Kapok is harvested very sustainably, and with great respect for nature. It is used, for example, no machines during harvest. All kapok seed capsules are hand-picked under orderly working conditions.
The factory that supplies kapok for Cocoon's duvets, pillows and mattresses has several international certifications. The factory is both certified with SA8000, FairTrade and GOTS. In order to obtain these international certifications, very strict requirements are placed on the organic content of the products and on the working conditions. This applies not only to the factory's employees, but also to the small sub-suppliers who are part of the supply chain earlier.
The great thing about kapok is that it is both temperature-regulating and insulating. As with wool, excess heat and moisture are transported away from the body. Kapok is therefore particularly suitable for bed environments, where we spend, on average, approx. 8 hours a day. Most of us also sweat a lot during the night, so it really makes sense to choose a kapok duvet that can help the body transport the sweat away from the body. The result is calmer nights with several hours of undisturbed sleep.
In addition to a kapok duvet being temperature-regulating, it is also allergy-friendly and antibacterial. Kapok production is 100% organic. No pesticides or insecticides are used. In addition, the kapok fibers contain a natural bitterness, which protects the duvet against house dust mites and fungal growth. They cannot live in kapok, just as they normally can in other types of quilts.
When you buy a kapok quilt at Økofamily.dk, you can order according to special measurements. All kapok quilts, pillows and mattresses are manufactured in both standard sizes and custom sizes. The supplier is therefore happy to adapt the products to your specific wishes and needs. The delivery time for custom-made kapok pillows is approx. 8-12 weeks, but is definitely worth the wait.
At home at Økofamily we all sleep with kapok duvets, as well as on kapok pillows and mattresses. We have done that for several years. The quality is fantastic, although initially you have to get used to the fact that the duvets and pillows have a slightly different texture and shape than usual. quilts.
A kapok quilt may seem a little heavier than synthetic or down quilts. However, the weight of the duvet decreases after a few weeks of use. When you receive your first kapok quilt, it may also seem fuller than ordinary quilts. This is again an effect that wears off after a few weeks of use. This is because the fibers collapse a little over time. That's why the quilt is filled with extra kapok before delivery.
Personally, my kapok quilt has meant that today I can make do with one quilt all year round. Before I got a kapok quilt, I struggled a bit with my quilt being either too hot or too cold. After sleeping with a kapok duvet for a few years, I know that I can thank the kapok's temperature-regulating qualities for giving me a more restful night's sleep. That's why I personally don't want to do without my kapok quilt. It's warm when it's cold, but still comfortable in the summer. On extremely hot summer nights, however, I still prefer to sleep with a sheet - just like most people :-)
Unlike regular quilts, you do not need to wash a kapok quilt. However, like all other quilts, it can benefit from being aired a little on the drying line for approx. every two months..
Should you still want to wash your kapok duvet, it is important that you use enzyme-free detergent and wash it at a maximum of 60 degrees. Also avoid using fabric softener.
