Bokashi bran - organic compost yeast - 1 kg

How to use Bokashi bran in your compost bin
When you start with an empty Bokashi compost bin, you start by sprinkling a thin layer of Bokashi bran at the bottom. Then you add kitchen waste little by little. Every time you put new food scraps in the container, you again spread an even layer of bran on top and lightly press the waste down before closing the lid tightly.
The combination of bran and food scraps ensures optimal conditions for fermentation. After a few weeks, you will have a valuable pre-compost that you can mix with soil, after which it is quickly transformed into nutrient-rich soil for your plants.
One kilo of Bokashi bran is typically enough for approximately 2-3 months of normal use of the compost bin.
Storage
Bokashi bran is stored at room temperature, without exposure to direct sunlight.

About bokashi bran
Bokashi Bran, also sometimes called compost yeast, is a mixture of molasses (sugar and water) and natural, beneficial microorganisms (lactic acid bacteria, yeasts, photosynthetic organisms, actinomycetes and enzyme-active fungi), which initiate the fermentation process and prevent decomposition in the Bokashi Organko 2 composter.
Once the fermentation process is complete, the organic waste retains all essential nutrients (especially nitrogen) that would otherwise be lost through decomposition. As a result, the fermented organic waste is an excellent base for first-class compost.
The product contains
1 x Organko 2 bucket
1 x 1 kg Bokashi bran

Bokashi urban compost bin
Bokashi is a compost bin for your kitchen. The Bokashimethod originates from Korea, and is a pretty smart way to make your own free and natural fertilizer.
Bokashi is a special way to compost your bio-waste. Food waste and organic residues break down in the airtight bin in just 14 days using compost yeast, microorganisms and enzymes. It is recommended to have two buckets in order to have a continuous flow in the composting, so you can fill one while the other ferments.
The organic waste actually goes through a fermentation, i.e. a chemical fermentation process, and the method is fast and differs quite a lot from traditional ways of composting in large compost containers filled with air.
The food waste becomes nutrition that can be mixed with/added to soil and used in e.g. potted plants, pots and raised beds. The Bokashi liquid that is tapped from the bottom of the bucket is great as both fertilizer and drain cleaner.
With the Bokashi compost bin, you have the opportunity to recycle your organic waste from the kitchen and get rid of it in a natural, good and meaningful way. It's a pretty great invention, especially for people who live in an apartment or townhouse with a sparse garden. You can even take it to the allotment garden.
The compost binsare produced in the EU from recycled plastic and the yeast is produced in Denmark from organic raw materials.
The set consists of two buckets.
They are designed to stand under the kitchen sink and are easy to handle. The buckets are cleaned in clean water without soap.
If you don't have space for the buckets in your kitchen, you can get a Bokashi Davli, which is perfect for collecting your food waste in the kitchen, which you then move into the Bokashi bucket when it is filled.

How to use your Bokashi Compost bin
It takes soil to make bokashi compost. It can be from a garden or from pots and raised beds. Bokashi must be mixed with soil to become compost.
- Check that the tap is closed.
- You first sprinkle 20 ml of compost yeast into your empty Bokashibin, fill your food waste on top, sprinkle 20 ml of yeast again and press the plunger down.
- Then sprinkle compost yeast on top after each time you fill in (preferably only 1-2 times a day).
- The plunger creates a vacuum inside the bucket when you push it down onto the bucket.
- Drain liquid from the bucket every 3-5 day
- When the bucket is full, the contents must ferment completely for 2 weeks before emptying. Here you must also drain liquid regularly.
- Then you can start up bucket number two following the same procedure as above.
- After 14 days, you can dig the fermented food waste into the ground and let it compost completely over the next 2-3 weeks. (Some make a small "soil factory" on the balcony or somewhere else).
- Afterwards you can wash the individual parts in the dishwasher. Apart from the lid - it cannot withstand the dishwasher.
- The drained liquid, which must be drained from the bottom of the bucket, can be used as fertilizer immediately if diluted 1:100.
