Sustainable wardrobe - my 8 good clothing habits

Sustainable wardrobe - my 8 good clothing habits

The fashion industry is too wild. So really wild. Clothes are produced in massive quantities.

Sometimes I wish I could go back to my grandmother's youth, when you got a new dress once a year (if you were really lucky) and nylon stockings were sent for repair. That is a super sustainable idea. Also because the dresses were actually quite nice back then – tailor-made or perhaps home-made and of unusually good quality.

Today we consume loosely and our cupboards and drawers are full of clothes of (often) mediocre quality and synthetic materials. Materials that largely contribute to large amounts of microplastics in our aquatic environment. The clothes quickly become outdated – there are many seasons in a year, so new purchases are quickly needed. And I'm certainly not going to make myself holy here. I can also fall in love with a new lace blouse or a new pair of jeans in the right cut. But I really don't need it.

That is why I have introduced a sustainability principle to my wardrobe – 8 good clothing habits, which you can get here

1. Use what you have and don't throw away all the time – unless it's poor quality or super synthetic

2. Repair your clothes – possibly with batches if that makes sense

3. Borrow clothes for festive occasions

4. Exchange clothes with friends

5. Buy used, and you also avoid residual chemicals in the clothes

6. Feel free to buy slightly too big clothes for the fast-growing little ones – and live with indulgences here and there

7. Buy new clothes in organic and good quality

8. Buy clothes in natural materials in which the body can breathe. It could, for example, be wool, cotton, silk or linen.
